MANDARIN

I love Mandarin. It’s the suburb in Jacksonville that I raised my family. Mandarin offers an urban feel with single family homes, a few condos and a few townhomes. You will find just a few apartments. The beautiful St. Johns River flows through many of the Mandarin neighborhoods.

Here’s some Mandarin Trivia…Mandarin was known for its orange groves and its named after the Mandarin Orange. There are 7 awesome reasons to make Mandarin your home.

First, It’s Beauty! I love the old majestic oak trees that line Mandarin Rd. the trees are huge and have gorgeous Spanish Moss and it has some of the best views of the St. Johns River.   Mandarin is located just off State Rd. 13 also called San Jose Blvd. The parks are also magnificent for family photos and well just the scenery.

#2 Public Schools. This is a family neighborhood, and the schools are excellent there Loretto Elementary where they have a gifted program. Then Mandarin High School is known for its academics. These are A rated schools.

#3 Convivence. I like things close by so this fits the bill. There are grocery stores, pet stores, restaurants that are both franchises and local owned like Enzia Italian! Mmmm

Can’t forget Jeremias Gelato and Bruster’s Ice Cream one of my favorites.  It’s close to the shopping mall, gas stations, and hotels.

Number 4 is THE ST. JOHNS RIVER! I love how there are plenty of opportunities for viewing the St. Johns River. There are both public docks like the one on County Dock Rd. just off mandarin Rd. and another off St. Rd. 13. There are 2 marinas and the one I love is at the foot of the Julington Creek Bridge where you see lots of sail boats docked. There’s even a seafood restaurant where you can dine overlooking the river and the docked boats.

Number 5 ART FESTIVAL ALERT! Every Easter there is a juried art festival at mandarin Community Center. Better get there early as parking is tough.  It’s a 2-day festival and on Easter they have an Easter Egg hunt for the kids.  The community center is where you can see the famous home of Harriet Beecher Stowe, Author of “Uncle Toms Cabin”.

Number 6. PARKS. There are several parks. There is Alpine Groves park that offers a boat ramp, picnic area, and great views of the river. Bring your camera!  There is also Mandarin Park and Walter Jones Historical Park where you can see an 1876 replica Barn and a restored 1875 Farmhouse.

Number 7 are the homes. There is really something for everyone in many price points. There are homes on a typical lot and you can find homes on acreage. There are homes on the river and homes in HOA or non HOA communities. It’s a highly desired community in Jacksonville.

Mandarin is a great place to call home. That’s why I called it home for over 30 years!
